Limited wi-fi and cell phone coverage

Experiencing the beauty of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is breathtaking. However, given the remote location of both parks, please note that cell phone and internet service including Wi-Fi is very limited throughout the parks.

Immerse yourself with nature and your surroundings, as you’ll be far away from cell towers and wireless hot spots. If you’re concerned about being “off the grid,” let us help you put your fears to rest, and show you how embracing the lack of technology can make your trip even better!

What does “limited wi-fi” mean?

Wi-Fi is available in very few places. We have a slow satellite internet connection with limited bandwidth, so it’s only ideal for checking email or some (very) light web browsing. Don’t expect to be able to stream Netflix, download or upload large files, Skype with your friends back home, or download your favorite podcast.

Also, if you have an iPhone set to sync to iCloud or a computer that backs up using Dropbox, OneDrive, etc., please turn those services off while staying with us.

Where can i get wi-fi?

Wi-Fi is available in the common areas of Wuksachi and John Muir Lodges. This includes the lobby of John Muir Lodge and the lobby, restaurant, lounge, and meeting rooms of Wuksachi Lodge. Due to our remote location, internet is limited at both John Muir Lodge and Wuksachi Lodge.

Is there Wi-Fi in the guestrooms?

No.

What other locations don’t have Wi-Fi?

John Muir Lodge, Grant Grove Cabins, Cedar Grove Lodge, Bearpaw High Sierra Camp, and most other public areas.

What can I do with no Wi-Fi?

Great news: you’re in luck! Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are best experienced “unplugged.” Here are just a few of the many fun things you can do while disconnected:

De-Stress and Unwind: Vacate the stresses of everyday life on your vacation! Studies have shown that use of social media sites can increase stress levels. Don’t worry about what’s happening in your news feed, and embrace the escape!
Hike a Trail: There are more than 1,000 miles of Sequoia & Kings Canyon hiking trails for visitors of every ability. Crescent Meadow Loop Trail, Tokopah Falls Trail, and Big Stump Trail are among the many trails in both parks.
Take Pictures: Your camera still works even if your phone doesn’t get reception! The Sequoia landscape is studded with majestic mountains, the world’s largest trees, and more! Kings Canyon Overlook, Redwood Mountain Overlook, and Eleven Range Overlook are popular places to practice your Sequoia photography and offer postcard-worthy vistas. Check out more information.

Is there cell phone coverage?

Very few areas of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks have cell phone service. You may get service in some spots in the parks depending on your carrier, but you should not count on it. You will not have reception at Wuksachi Lodge, and some guests may get reception at John Muir Lodge.
